Elon Musk’s X, formerly Twitter, might be introducing in-stream ads on videos like skippable and non-skippable ads on YouTube for creators. This will give more monetization options for creators on the platform.
X users witnessed in-stream ads in Tucker Carlson videos signaling X is testing new features for creators.
This was reported by an X user with the handle @TexasLindsay_ that “X has rolled out an automated ad on Tucker Carlson’s new episode similar to what YouTube and Rumble does on their platforms.”
This is a new and very limited feature in the social media giant owned by Elon Musk. YouTube and Rumble offer these kinds of ads to the creators as skippable and non-skippable in-stream ads. However, users on X haven’t seen a lot of these types.
This comes just after days when Elon Musk dropped big F-bombs against advertisers for what he called blackmailing with money. You can check out the news here, as he dropped the words in a DealBook summit. He also said not to advertise, and these boycotts will lead to company (companies in general) bankruptcy.
In-stream Ads – more options for creators on X?
Since the monetization options for premium creators on X, Elon Musk has provided multiple options to make money for premium (verified) creators on the social media platform. There are three main options for monetization on X (Twitter).
- Subscriptions – Creators can ask their followers to subscribe for a fixed amount like any other subscription service.
- Creators can add a Bitcoin address or other payment links where followers/visitors can donate directly.
- Ads revenue sharing – share ads revenue served in the replies to your posts.
The latest in-stream ads seen should be related to the Ads revenue sharing type. However, these types of in-stream ads are not common. Twitter has not disclosed the revenue-sharing model, unlike YouTube’s sharing model.
Mixed reactions on X over the in-stream ads feature
The reactions on X over this news are overwhelmingly positive. The general response is that this will empower more earning features for the creators and hence more revenue for Twitter (X) too. This is also significant after the recent scuffle with advertisers.
One user said the best news in the last 24 hours, Another user said X will be the best platform and profitable platform in the few years to come.
Some users said Ads are dumb and should opt for direct subscription, some said this is years old, indicating late release.
Since Elon Musk overtook the company, drastic changes have been made, and the most significant one is the firing of a major chunk of the Twitter workforce. Another one is the inclination to be a friend of free speech. This is why Tucker Carlson opted for X after his contract with Fox News lapsed.
He introduced the monetization features for premium verified creators. This was one of his moves aimed at driving premium subscriptions on the site.
When the first revenue-sharing payments were made, users Tweeted with surprise and happiness that they were getting paid for just posting. It should be noted that many users were taken surprise by the amount they made.
The monetization and revenue sharing are based on a set of rules and guidelines that the creators need to follow. Or else their revenue-sharing model will be canceled. The requirements and guidelines are long and can be checked by clicking the link above.
However, this new feature is testing only on content of limited creators, and X needs to release this feature to more creators. What Elon Musk will do on this remains to be seen.
