Google Gemini Conteroversy
Soon after the viral video, an op-ed in Bloomberg, criticized Google’s AI model as something that is a slight improvement that ChatGPT achieved a year back. However, the main criticism is the “jaw-dropping” video. The author criticized the “For the purposes of this demo, latency has been reduced and Gemini outputs have been shortened for brevity,” and for not showing the reality.
It further criticized how Google is trying to show and the reality. It was not the audio prompt and instant reply but “using still image frames from the footage, and prompting via text,” So, in reality, the prompt was via text, and still images were shown. The reply was also not instant as shown in the video.
Google’s Defense
In Google’s defense, Oriol Vinyals posted a long post on X (formerly Twitter) saying that all the prompts and responses are real it is just that the video is shortened for “brevity”. To be fair, most of the commercials of most companies use some kind of improvements and edits for their release in Ads promotional videos, and images.
One more interesting observation about the X post above is the hiding of some of the replies to the above X post. All the hidden replies are negative comments.
By checking out the hidden replies, it is really clear that users are not happy with the details of the videos. One of the users went as far as asking, “are the benchmark results are real or are they also meant to ‘inspire’?”
